It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Dr. David Flinchbaugh, founder of the Inventors Council of Central Florida (ICCF), who passed away on June 7, 2026, at the age of 91.
More than 50 years ago, Dr. Flinchbaugh founded the Inventors Council of Central Florida, which remains the second-oldest inventors’ council in the United States. Throughout his distinguished career, he also founded four Florida-based companies and served as a Director of the National Council of Inventor Organizations.
Dr. Flinchbaugh was a highly accomplished scientist, engineer, inventor, and entrepreneur. His many professional credentials and achievements included:
- Atomic and Nuclear Physicist
- Health Physicist
- Registered Professional Electrical Engineer
- Life Certified Manufacturing and Automation Engineer
- Pioneer and developer of LASER technology
- Innovator in Acousto-Optic and Ultrasonic Laser Modulation
- Expert in RADAR and SONAR Signal Processing
- Primary inventor of the Remotely Operated Service Arm (ROSA), a sophisticated robotic system used worldwide in nuclear power plant operations and recovery
Dr. Flinchbaugh also served as CEO of Technology Applications International, CTO of Advanced Medical Innovations, and Founder and former CEO of UroSolutions, Inc. He was the inventor of the first patented, patient-safe Bladder Management System™, a breakthrough medical device that established a new standard of patient care.
Today, the Inventors Council of Central Florida continues to thrive because of the dedicated volunteers who generously contribute their time and expertise to the organization’s founding mission of “inventors helping inventors.” We proudly continue this mission in honor of Dr. David Flinchbaugh and his late wife, Hildegard (Heidi) Maria Rose Flinchbaugh, whose support and commitment helped shape the organization for generations of inventors.
We encourage members, colleagues, and friends to learn more about Dr. Flinchbaugh’s remarkable life and accomplishments. He was inducted into the Florida Inventors Hall of Fame in 2023 and was recognized for holding 11 U.S. patents.
